office building, commercial building
6-story commercial/office building completed in 2001 as an addition to the original and larger Decoration & Design Building that it adjoins on the west. Designed by Dominion Seven Architects, its 2-story base matches that of the original building, and the upper floors are intended to complement it.
The base, of rusticated limestone, has three bays, with double-height round-arches and keystones with carved D&D lettering, light fixtures attached to the slightly-projecting piers, and tripartite windows at the 2nd floor, overlaid with metal grilles, all mirroring the original design. Large roundels have been added to the corners of the 2nd floor, around the arches. The eastern two bays have additional storefronts, while the west bay is a main entrance to the building. It has a revolving door at the ground floor, framed by Doric columns and recessed side windows. The columns support a projecting, semi-circular stone canopy. At the 2nd floor, there is a tripartite window and grille deeply recessed, and a coffered ceiling on the underside of the arch. The top of the stone canopy is adorned with a pair of gilded D&D letters.
The upper floors have paneled limestone piers and wide tripartite windows. Each window group projects slightly at the center, where the middle pane is subdivided into a center pane and narrower side panes. Grey metal framing organizes the windows in each bay, and grey-painted stone spandrels separate the floors in each bay. The spandrels are also paneled and slightly projecting at the middles, corresponding to the windows, and are ornamented with the D&D logo at the center. A stone cornice marks the roof line. The ground floor is occupied by Grande Central Gallery, and McKinnon & Harris Estate/Garden/Yacht Furniture.
