Sky River Wind Energy Center is a wind farm located in Kern County, California, about 46 miles east of central Bakersfield and 36 miles north of Lancaster. Sized 6 miles N-S and 1 mile E-W, it roughly parallels a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail. Commissioned in 1991, it consists of 340 Vestas V27/225 wind turbines (only some of which are marked on the map) with a combined nominal capacity of 'about' 70 MW.
A number of the turbines have over the years been taken out of commission and it seems only a matter of time before the rest are also removed and replaced with more modern equipment.
