In 1887 the Hafslo congregation was organized. A church was built in 1888, and the church was closed in 1978. The name Hafslo was taken from a town in Norway where some of the early church members were from. In 1907 the church was moved two miles south, to Russia Township, and a new cemetery was established on land donated by E.B. Durdahl.
