Murray Hill East Suites

USA / New Jersey / West New York / East 39th Street, 149

14-story hotel completed in 1964. Designed by Lionel K. Levy as an apartment building, it is clad in red brick. The facade is set back from the building line behind a row of planters and a low brick wall that follows the slope of the site, growing taller toward the east end, where the wall is broken by two metal gates. There is also a gap for the main entrance in the center, with a rounded blue canvas canopy extending out over the sidewalk. The facade is organized into seven main bays. The two end bays have double-windows, the next two in from the west and the next one in from the east each have triple-windows, and the remaining middle two are the widest, with bands of five windows. Each bay has a stone sill and metal mullions dividing the window panes. The facade sets back above the 11th floor, except for two sections flanking the middle that extend up two more floors before setting back. These 2-story sections each have a triple-windows and single-window to the outside, and have angled outer corners, each with a single-window. The recessed top floors also has angled corners. The building was renovated in 2001, and contains 111 guest rooms.
