This bridge was built in the early 1950s as part of the John H. Kerr Dam. It carries Virginia Route 4 (Buggs Island Road) over the dam spillway with 22 spans and enables the highway to cross John Kerr Reservoir (Buggs Island Lake) and the Roanoke River. It is a steel girder-and-floorbeam bridge and is 1100 feet long.
