The Maritime Hotel

USA / New Jersey / Hoboken / West 16th Street, 363
 hotel, Modern (architecture)

141-foot, 12-story modernist hotel completed in 1969. Designed by Albert C. Ledner as a student residence and offices for the National Maritime Union. It was later home to the scandal-ridden Covenant House runaway shelter from 1987 until 1994, when it was sold to the Chinese government and used as a service center for Chinese Study Fellows. Now a nautical-themed hotel, redeveloped by BD Hotels to designs by architects Furman & Furman in 2003.

The white concrete slab of the tower is distinctive for its regular pattern of round porthole-like windows. A tall, 1-story podium extends out to 9th Avenue, and housed the restaurants.
