Pavillion by Japanese architect Toyo Ito, built in 2002, when Bruges was a European Cultural Capital. The floor of the pavillion collapsed under the weight of a fork-lift truck in 2006, and the pavillion's removal or restauration is currently (2007) the subject of a dispute between local and national authorities.

This pavillion is the only modern monument in the city. Although it was constructed to stay for 1 year, it stayed there much longer. Since it is slightly damaged many voices want to remove it. The conservative local authorities would like to remove it and create there a quiet park suited for elderly people. .. which would make Brugge an even more pastiche-like medieval city.
