Kortenbos is a parish and pilgrimage site in Limburg that is partly located on the territory of the municipalities of Nieuwerkerken and Alken and the city of Sint-Truiden.
The place was originally called Nachtegael after the feudal court at that location. Since 1636, the history of Kortenbos has been dominated by the miraculous statue of Our Lady and later by the Basilica of Our Lady of Kortenbos. This church dates from 1644 and is served by the Norbertines of Averbode. Nevertheless, the inhabitants remained part of the parish whose territory they inhabited. An independent parish was established around 1840.
