Designed c. 1968 by Marcel Breuer & Associates. In 1956, Marcel Breuer was asked to develop a comprehensive design for the uptown campus of New York University (now Bronx Community College). From 1959-1970, five buildings were built based on the design and planning of Breuer and his associates Hamilton Smith and Robert F. Gatje including Silver Hall (now Colston Hall), Tech I (Polowczyk Hall), Tech II (Meister Hall), Community Hall and Begrisch Hall, which was designated a New York City landmark in 2002.

These modernist structures of reinforced concrete and steel provide a dramatic contrast to the Neo-Classical style of architecture by Stanford White seen elsewhere on campus. Begrisch Hall, for example, features a pair of sloping cantilevers that spring from side-wall trusses and enclose two steep-floored lecture halls. These elevated rooms are reached by a staircase that rises from ground level and an enclosed concrete bridge connected to an adjoining building. Meister Hall is fronted by a 22,000 square foot bluestone plaza and a low colonnade of Y-shaped columns. Its façade of panels, each weighing 11 tons, creates a self-supporting building frame with unique load-bearing properties.
