Kirkstead Abbey

Founded 1139. Dissolved 1537. Now all that remain are this solitary finger of masonry (continually eroded by grazing farm animals), the abbey's nearby gate chapel (now the Church of St Leonard Without) and some of the layout of the abbey, which can be discerned in the earthworks in the surrounding field.
