The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad mainline operated between Chicago and Seattle from 1909 until 1980, passing through this tunnel. Including the branch lines, there were a total of 64 tunnels on the Milwaukee Road, of which 8 remain in use.
