The mainline of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad was completed between Chicago and Seattle during 1909, and included 51 tunnels. Another tunnel was planned for this location, but was never built. The CMSP&P ended operations in Idaho during 1980. Including the branch lines, there were a total of 64 tunnels on the Milwaukee Road, of which 8 remain in use.
