Architecturally notable neighborhood developed by the University of Minnesota to help faculty find housing: Begun in 1928, it included a rule that buyers must employ an architect (with a cap on costs), so it began to show off a variety of modern architectural styles among the 103 single-family houses.

The original landscape plan is by Morel and Nichols. The Grove boasts excellent examples of residential architecture from architects such as Ralph Rapson, whose Livermore residence is emblematic (pictured), Winston and Elizabeth Close, Edwin Lundie, and Richard Hammel.

To balance the individuality of professors/administrators while keeping the properties in the "family," each faculty/staff person owns the homes while the University owns the land upon which the home is situated and the faculty/staff person pays rent annually for that land use. The University retains title to the land.
