archeological site, NRHP - National Register of Historic Places, Native American, U.S. National Historic Landmark
Historic archeological site containing the remains of a large Late Mississippian Nodena Phase Native American settlement. The village that once existed here is hypothesized to have been at least 50 acres in size, and contained hundreds of structures. It is thought that the period of occupation of this site was focused on the A.D. 1350 to 1450 time period, though there is evidence to suggest occupation going as far back as A.D. 600. Future archeological research could yield important information about this region's pre-contact Native population. The Eaker Site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and is also designated a National Historic Landmark (NHL).
