railway, abandoned / shut down, electrical sub-station
The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad completed their mainline from Chicago to Seattle during 1909. The CMSP&P electrified their line from Harlowton, MT, to Avery, ID, and Othello to Seattle. They planned to electrify the intervening gap, which would have included substation 15 in St. Joe. The electric operations ended during June 1974, and then the Milwaukee Road shut down their western operations during March 1980. This section of the line, running east from Plummer, was acquired by the St. Maries River Railroad, and lasted several more years before it was abandoned.
