The Sons of Katie Elder was about the cattle rustlers that lived here along the Chisholm Trail, which is kinda US81. There was a hole in the ground found in Marlow itself - not all THAT long ago. They figured it to be a sort of a hideout. Back then, there were almost no trees west of what is now US77 / I-35. Prairie fires kept the prairie clean, back before global warming.
