This Spanish Revival style church building was built in 1927 by Los Angeles architect Emmet G. Martin. It replaced the original small wooden parish built in 1893 at the same location. The chapel was dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary on April 5, 1893, while this present chapel was dedicated on October 24, 1927. Today, St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Parish operates under the administration of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego.
