The Pristine Forest at Seongin Peak

Korea (South) / Kangwon / Samchok / Na-ri, San 44-1

This area located below the summit of Ulleungdo remains pristine. A pristine forest refers to a native forest that has never been damaged by humans during the course of time.

There are colonies of native trees like beeches, wanggorosoe and seomdeonpung that grow wild and unspoiled. Ulleungdo’s native trees of the representative species are seomjoredae; and other species of trees growing among them include hemlock spruces, seomdeonpung and island linden trees, all distributed exclusively throughout the island. The island's native plants include seommallari, keunnorugwi, seombadi. Island Korean nut pines are seen growing wild alongside these species, but now seen in inland areas. This pristine forest is a valuable natural material that tells of the natural history of the island

The Pristine Forest at Seongin Peak is Natural Monument #I89
