This monumental construction was built in 13th century b.c.e. and was a functional extension of the Royal Zone. The Pillared Building has a monumental entrance to the south and a very large hall divided in a vestibule in the eastern part and the hall proper in the larger part in the west. In the hall there are three rectangular stone bases and a fourth centered in the doorway between the hall and eastern vestibule that served as bases for the wooden pillars that supported the floor or the upper floor. The building was previously thought to host the royal stables whereas today archaeologists tend to consider this building related to the ceremonies held in the temple and used for assemblies and banquets.
