Established in 1917, Liberty Starter Company erected a three story building, known as Plant 1, along 15th Street to produce electric motor starters. The following year, the Ford Motor Company announced that all of its vehicles would be equipped with an electric starter as standard equipment and by 1921 Liberty Starter was making the majority of starters for Ford. To meet the demand, the company opened Plant 2 at 2360 West Jefferson Avenue and during 1919-1920 constructed a four story factory addition known as Plant 3, the the north of the existing Plant 1.
