Ilian, is a maranao term synonymous to "kota" (another maranao term) refers to fortress, situated in Barangay Bantalan (Bantalain). This barangay was created under P.D. 1548 dated June 11, 1978, the charter creation of the Municipality of Tagoloan II in the Province of Lanao del Sur. This "Ilian" was made by late Sultan Olowa Kalasan (1st Sultan of Bayog) of his aimed to be used as defense against the Japanese invaders in 1942. Sultan Olowa Kalasan was the son of late Datu Kalasan. Datu Kalasan Maricor was one of the six (6) clan of Bayog. The six (6) clan were the children of Datu Maricor (husband of Bae Gandi).

This place was inhabited by Datu Kalasan (son of Datu Maricor and Bae Gandi) since time immemorial then to his son Sultan Olowa Kalasan (1st Sultan of Bayog) represented by his son late Sultan Macatanong Kalasan (2nd Sultan of Bayog) and now to Sultan Ali Eskander (Alexander) S. Kalasan (3rd Sultan of Bayog).

Boundaries: Bounded on the east claimed by heirs of Pung-guina-guina Minoy Talin Alamada (the grandson of Datu Maricor); on the south by hill; on the west by the heirs of Datu Mamundug Apay Mauday (Quiapo); on the north by Bayog river.
