USA / New Jersey / West New York / East 38th Street, 24

6-story residential-hotel building completed in 1875 as a 4-story townhouse. The original mansard roof was replaced by a full floor, and an additional two floors were added on top in 1916. At that time, the stoop was also removed and the entrance relocated to the first level, down a short set of steps from the sidewalk, and the building was converted to bachelor apartments. It also underwent major alterations for conversion for use by the Dartmouth Club, from 1926 to 1938. In 2003 it was renovated into furnished rental apartments for travelers and corporate housing as the Oakwood Madison, with 20 units.

The lower three floors are clad in grey stone, while the upper floors of the 3-bay facade are faced in grey-painted stucco. The windows have simple, flat stone surrounds, with sills on the 2nd & 3rd floors. The surround are segmental-arched at the 4th floor, which is set off by a band course at the bottom and a modillioned cornice at the top. A simple roof cornice marks the roof line. The west elevation is clad in dark-brown brick.
