Old MRL Bridge

Built by the Northern Pacific Railroad prior to 1914, this is a Pratt through truss bridge consisting of four spans resting on concrete piers. The four spans total a length of 854 feet. This bridge became part of the Burlington Northern Railway on March 2, 1970, with the merger of four railroads, the Great Northern Railway, Northern Pacific Railway, Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway and the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad. Later, with another merger, the Burlington Northern became the Burlington Northern & Sante Fe.
Still in excellent condition, this bridge has carried millions of tons of train and freight in its lifetime. Though the USGS has referred to this as Bridge No. 218, it is also known as Clark Fork River Bridge No. 1.
