Concrete base of a structure belonging to the Renton Coal Company.

In Spring 2012, WADOT completed construction of the southbound off-ramp for I-405 that feeds into Talbot Road. That construction made the monument difficult to see and get to. It is now hidden from casual view by motorists and access is difficult. The only place to park is a small gravel turn-out just south of the area on the relocated Benson Road, but it seems like an afterthought rather than something that exists for the monument. Pedestrian access has been eliminated by decorative landscaping that is not meant to be walked on.

Prior to construction of the off-ramp, the monument was easy to see when driving past and easy to look at on foot, as it sat right next to Benson Road and had a paved turn-out with room for a few vehicles.
