Julius Rosenwald was a white businessman, philanthropist and co-owner of Sears, Roebuck and Company. One of his philanthropic activities, in collaboration with famed African American educator Booker T. Washington, involved founding a charitable fund in 1917 that was dedicated to building schools in the rural south specifically for the educational advancement of African-Americans. This was one such school.
