Northern Lines Railway Bridge (St. Cloud, Minnesota)

 railway, bridge, railway bridge

The Northern Lines Railway crosses the Mississippi River on this bridge, acquired from the BNSF Railway during 2004. Originally this crossing dates back to the St. Paul and Pacific Railroad, which built up the west bank of the Mississippi from Minneapolis and crossed here into St. Cloud. The bridge opened on June 12, 1872 and the line then continued to Moorhead, across from Fargo. During 1878 James J Hill bought the SP&P and changed the name to the St. Paul, Minneapolis and Manitoba. The SPM&M became the Great Northern and in 1970 the GN became part of Burlington Northern. During 2004 the Northern Lines Railway (Anacostia and Pacific) took over the 24 miles west of St. Cloud, including the bridge.
