railway, railroad yard
Built by the Great Norhern Railway, this was once an important yard serving as a hub for the railroad's lines throughout greater Minnesota. The yard was inherited in 1970 by the Burlington Northern and by the mid 1980's all the lines connecting here had been abandoned or spun off in favor of ex-NP routes through the region, with the yard being sold to shortline Northern Lines Railway in 2004. NLR operates about 25 miles of former GN trackage serving industries in and around St. Cloud.
