mine, copper mine, mining
Bethlehem Copper was the first large, modern mine in the Highland Valley area. Copper and molybdenum ore was produced from this open pit mine from 1963 to 1982. Later, the concentrator was used to process ore from the Valley Copper open pit (currently Highland Valley Copper) until 1989.
Recent exploration by Teck Resources Ltd has identified new orebodies beneath the old open pits and elsewhere in the area. These discoveries may help to sustain the Highland Valley Copper operation well into the future.
