This the land holdings for the Getchell and Turquoise Ridge mines which are jointly by Barrick as the operator with 75% and Newmont owning the remaining 25%.

Turquoise Ridge uses underhand cut-and-fill mining methods. Ore is transported to Newmont’s Twin Creeks mill for processing. The refractory gold ore is treated by pressure oxidation technology and gold is recovered using conventional carbon-in-leach technology.

Barrick’s share of proven and probable mineral reserves as of December 31, 2011 was 5.3 million ounces of gold2. Barrick is studying the potential to develop a large scale open pit in order to mine the lower grade halo around the high grade underground ore. A prefeasibility study on this expansion is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.
