 nursing home, 1905_construction

8-story nursing home/residential building completed in 1905 with five floors. Designed by George F. Pelham as a stable, it was expanded and converted in 1999 into a 52-unit center providing housing and support to single adult men and women who are living with HIV and AIDS. The ground floor is clad in dark-red brick, 6 bays wide, and topped by a very broad stone cornice. There are entrances in the outer bays, large double-windows in the center bays, and smaller windows in the other two bays, all separated by projecting piers with patterned brickwork.

The upper floors are divided into two halves; the western half is clad in the same brick as the ground floor, while the eastern half has lighter, more orange brick. Brick quoins framed both sides. All the windows have flat stone lintels; the center bays also have flat stone bands below the sills. The middle windows in each half are divided vertically by a green metal mullion. At the top of the 5th floor are green tile squares above each window, and a stone coping at the roof line. The 6th & 7th floors are set back, with the top floor set further back, and clad in dark-red brick. They have four windows - two at the end bays, and two in the center bays.
