Buildings demolished in 1777

Romania / Sibiu / Piața Mare / Large Square, 4
demolished, historical layer / disappeared object, 15th century construction

Two medieval buildings, of which the one on the north had a porch/arcade open to the market, demolished in 1777 to build Brukenthal palace.
The palace was built on the site of two medieval houses. The building next to Casa Albastra/Blue House, belonged to the family Klocknern, inherited by the governor's wife from her father, Georg Klockner.
In a second phase, Brukenthal acquired in 1775 the building situated north (with arcade/porch), former Senator von Offner property. After the demolition of both buildings and a process due to the intention to build the new building forward compared to the alignment on that side of the square, the municipality has given approval for the construction of which started in 1778.
The first known image of Piata Mare/Large Square, made in 1703, shows the appearance of the two demolished buildings.
