New Zealands Largest Ski Area, situated on the north west side of Mt Ruapehu, known for its exceptional spring skiing and large snow base. Its also has a reputation of receiving alot of bad weather, frequently closing the area during the season. Season starts Late June and finishes late october, and on exceptional years past december.

Whakapapa Ski Area is owned and operated by RAL (Ruapehu Alpine Lifts), which also owns and operates Turoa Ski Area. A Lift Ticked gives access to both Ski Areas. It is possible to Walk Up to the summit of Mt Ruapehu and Ski down to Turoa Ski Area in under one hour.
