Boasting New Zealands Longest Vertical Ski Drop, Turoa is the Second largest Ski Area in NZ. It also receives the greatest snow base of any field in NZ. It is a South Facing Field that receives the worst weather of any ski area in NZ. It also suffers from Ice build up on the snow and on lifts. Damage is common in storms from ice build up.

This field is owned and operated by RAL (Ruapehu Alpine Lifts) which owns and operates
Whakapapa Ski Area. One lift ticket gives access to both ski areas. It is possible to walk over the top of Mt Ruapehu and ski down to Whakapapa in under two hours.
