office, NRHP - National Register of Historic Places, Colonial Revival (architecture)

The Thomaston Building was designed c. 1926 by James W. O'Connor as an apartment building for Grace family holdings. It is composed out of multi-colored glazed brick building of symmetrical design. Two-gable-ended dormers with heavy molded lintels. Center bay of each half accented by paired, arched windows. A modillion wood belt course divides street level from upper stories. This handsome brick building has classical colonial features such as a slate gable roof, period showroom windows and wood belt course with dentil molding above the first story. In its gable ends are classic round oculus windows.

The restoration and conversion to commercial was supervised in 1977 by Walter Blum with Kathleen Kirk. The building was subsequently placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, the same year it was designated a local landmark by the VGNP. It is significant for its association with W.R. Grace, whose family ran their dealings in local real estate from this site.
