The prominent architectural firm of Rubush and Hunter designed this superior art deco specimen in 1931 using glazed white terra cotta and abundant ornamentation. Later additions earned the building the reputation as the world’s largest Coca-Cola bottling plant. The company sold the building to Indianapolis Public Schools in 1969, and it has since been used as the IPS Service Center.

IPS sold the property to Hendricks Commercial Properties in 2017. Hendricks has proposed a $260M redevelopment project for the site, called "Bottleworks," calling for 157 apartment units, 40 for-sale condominiums, 170,000 square feet of office space and 114,000 square feet of retail space, in addition to a hotel and cinema, for a total of 1.2 million square feet of development.

Ground was broken on June 29, 2018 and Phase I was completed in 2021. Phase II began construction in 2022.
