Velpen is a former manor that became a district of the Limburg city of Halen.
Velpen originated where the old Diest-Zoutleeuw road crosses the Velpe. The first mention as Felepa is when it was donated to the abbey of Sint-Truiden by Count Rotbertus of Hasbania, together with the domains (villae) of Halen, Schaffen and Meerhout.
When Halen obtained city rights in 1206, these also applied to the manor of Velpen. Unlike the other Halense manor of Zelk, Velpen never grew into a parish.
