tree, oaks, historical marker
The very large oak tree at the front of the mansion was saved by George Washington. The story goes that when Washington was visiting in 1791, the plantation owner commented that he intended to cut it down as it blocked the view of the house as you came up the road. Washington asked that it be saved as it was even then a gran specimen. It is still a large oak.
