  • Hobcaw Barony was the home of Bernard Baruch, known as the 'advisor to Presidents'. Franklin D. Roosevelt spent a month at Hobcaw in 1944. Other famous visitors include Henry and Clare Booth Luce and George Vanderbilt. Bernard's daughter Belle W. Baruch left the estate to the University of South Carolina Institute for Marine Biology and Coastal Research.
