Faro is a city and a municipality in the Faro District of the Algarve region, in southern Portugal. It is the southernmost city in Continental Portugal. The population in 2011 was 64 560 in an area of 202.57 km2. The city proper has 50,000 inhabitants. It is the seat of the Faro District and capital of the Algarve region. The Algarve and Faro district cover the same territory.
