15-foot, 12-story residential building completed in 1912. Designed as a warehouse and headquarters for retailer Barneys, it was converted to 11 large luxury loft condominiums by architect Cary Tamarkin in 2000. The building is L-shaped, with a narrow wing extending to 17th Street and a wider frontage on 7th Avenue.
The east facade on the avenue is clad in orange brick, with grey granite bases on the piers, and a stone band course separating the upper floors from the rusticated 2-story base. The facade is four bays wide, with a round-arched entrance at the southern bay and steep green canvas awning at the other three storefront bays. At the 2nd floor, the center two bays are segmental-arched, while the outer bays have paired rectangular windows joined by stone sills and thick, rough-faced stone lintels.
On the upper floors, the middle bays have paired multi-pane windows, and the outer bays have square, double-wide, multi-pane windows, all with grey stone sills. Another stone cornices caps the 10th floor, and the roof line has a dentiled brick cornice.
The narrow 17th Street facade has a single round-arch at the ground floor. It is also clad in orange brick, with two granite bases flanking the arch. The 2nd floor has three narrow windows joined by a continuous rough-stone sill and lintel. A stone cornice sets off the upper floors, each consisting of one large, multi-paned studio window. Another stone cornice caps the 10th floor and the roof cornice is similar to that on the east facade.
The sidewalls of the building are clad in brown brick, with the path of the 10th-floor cornice continued across as a double band of lighter-colored brick. There are single- and double-wide multi-paned windows, concentrated more at the higher floors.
The tenant directory has included celebrities such as Harrison Ford, a former resident in the 12th floor penthouse suite, which comes with exclusive access to a roof top terrace. In 2016, the tenants paid $11M to purchase the air rights of the neighboring building to protect their viewshed.
The ground floor is occupied by Williams-Sonoma home furnishings.
