mine, sandpit (quarry)
This is the property for the Minago Nickel Project which is 100% owned by Victory Nickel and contains one of Canada's largest discovered undeveloped sulphide nickel deposits, the Nose and North Limb deposits. The plans to mine the deposits include open pit and underground operations.
The Nickel Deposit is covered by a the Winnipeg Formation sandstone layer which averages 8.9 meters thick which must be removed as part of pre-stripping for the open pit. Based on engineering studies the initial estimate for the amount of sand covering the pit is 11.2 million tonnes and the sandstone layer is not confined to the pit area and is present in other parts of the Minago project area. The Winnipeg Formation, which is Ordovician sandstone occurs stratigraphically below the dolomite approximately 46 to 73 m below the surface across the Property. The average depth to the top of the sand in the proposed pit area is 60.2 m. The sandstone ranges in thickness from 5.1 to 15.9 m across the Property
This created a new business for Victory in mining and selling Frac Sand to the petroleum industry, and thus also giving them access to the deposits. Victory has obtained a quarry lease (QL-1853) with an area of 69.88 ha on a portion of the mineral lease ML2 which is within the project area. Victory has created a company called Victory Silica as a frac sand supplier and sand is processed for shipment at the Severn Persons plant in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Currently that sand comes from a Wisconsin Mine but as Minago comes on stream Victory plans to build a plant near Winnipeg.
