District Balaghat looks like a flying bird and is situated in southern part of Jabalpur division. It occupies the south eastern region of the Satpura and Upper Wainganga Valley. The district spans over a degree from 21.19' to 22.24' North and 79.31 to 81.3' East. The total area of the district is 9245 Sq. Km. District Balaghat is bounded by Rajnandgaon in the East, Seoni in the West, District Mandla in the North and District Bhandara of Maharashtra State in the south. The Wainganga River separates the district from Seoni while the rivers Bawanthadi and Bagh define the inter-state boundary.

  • We lived at Balaghat during 1951-53. I studied at Muncipal secondary school sixth and seventh grade). My father was an engineer in PWD and our bunglow was near Jaya-stambh. My memories are going for swiming in the river behind forest ranger's school. There were many cashew nut trees laden with the fruit.I remember a talav (tank) behind PWD colony around which we used to go for a walk or bicycle. I still remember the names of railway stations from Gondia to Lamata and the meter gauge train. Life has brought me to Canada for education and work (karmabhumi). Monntreal has become our home. I use Google Earth to revisit and follow the changes of all the places we lived while being in India. Those were the wonder years. All the best.
  • Balaghat lies in the south-eastern part of Madhya Pradesh covering an area of 9,245 sq km with a population of 1.4 million. About 52% is covered with forest. Balaghat is very rich in forest resources. Teak, Sal, Bamboo and Saja are the main trees found. Of great tourist attraction are the Lanji Fort Temple with its Khajuraho model statues, Nahlesara Dam, and Rampaily Temple. The Wainganga River flows through Balaghat District. The Deo, Son and Chandan are other main rivers. A part of the famous Kanha National Park falls in this district. This park, with a rich variety of flora and fauna, is a place to visit. The closest airport is at Nagpur.

  • Hi. This is Sachin..BGT is My Home Town. Balaghat is Wonderful City Of Madhya Pradesh. I'm living here from last ten year .. It is the administrative headquarters of Balaghat District. The town was originally called "Burha" or "Boora", but this name was replaced by "Balaghat", which was originally the name of the district only. Balaghat means "above the ghats or passes. Currently M in Bangalore.. But I miss Balaghat so Much.. ..Thanks
