This facility is the fomer residence of Perry Belmont. Horace Trumbauer supervised construction of Perry Belmont's DC home. Perry was the son of banker August Belmont. He met, fell in love and caused the divorce of Mrs Jesse Sloane{Robbins}. They married in 1899, on the very day the divorce decree came through. Because of the scandal they could not settle in New York so they built in DC. This affair was the inspriration for Edith Wharton's book and later movie AGE OF INNOCENCE. Belmont sold property in 1935 to the General Grand Chapter of the International Eastern Star.
