In 1890, the Wolverine Table Manufacturing Company constructed a four story factory to manufacture furniture at 12th and Stanley Streets. It survived until about 1912 when the plant was taken over by Trippensee Manufacturing, a maker of automobile bodies for Ford and Buick amongst others.It was later acquired by Rickenbacker Motors to produce bodies for its automobile commencing in 1922. Four years later, the Rickenbacker was defunct and the factory idled. It was destroyed by a fire in 1930.
In 1948, the Detroit Street Railway opened the Samuel T Gilbert Terminal on the site.
