Noamundi is a Census Town city in district of Pashchimi Singhbhum, Jharkhand.
The Noamundi Census Town has population of 17,954 as per report released by Census India 2011.
A small town in the sighbhum district of jharkhand. Noamundi is mainly known for the world class iron ore which is mainly exported to china and japan. The main occcupation of people of noamundi is mining.TATA iron and steel industry owns these mines. This place is also famous for the DAV public school(sajid's school)which has a 100% record sincwe inception.Noamundi is leading in sports in jharkhand, the vice captaiin of the indian football team is from noamundi. Once it was very famous as a tourist place but rapid industrilization has stole the beauty of noamundi.

"Folklore has it that when iron ore explorers first came to Jharkhand, they were surprised to find tribesmen using axes made of iron. When asked about the source of the iron, the tribesmen pointed to a hill and called it Noamundi, meaning “that hill” in their language Ho. Rich and unprotected reserves of high-grade iron ore, including premier quality blue dust, have made this small town every steel giant's dream. But the blue dust has changed the colour of the landscape to red." This is an abstract of the feature written by Ashok Kumar Gupta in the magazine 'Down To Earth' in the Jan. 2009 issue about Noamundi. He has also written, "Noamundi is now the hub of large-scale illegal mining. There are no rules here. Mining is easy—all one needs is a crusher machine and labour that is available at Rs 40 a day. Transporting the ore is even easier." We've been in the reds and blues of Noamundi for a long time but being aware of the incedent happening and get to read about the present state of the place really don't take it as a pride to talk much of my birth place. Just a good place to go for hibernation after a tough city life.
