Benteng Pendem is a Dutch Fort built from 1861-1879 (the era of Dutch colonialism in Indonesia). It's name, which literally means "Buried Fort", is derived from the fact that this fort is built underground, intentionally to make it invisible from enemy's sight. It was surrounded by ditches, has sixty barracks, ammunition room, meeting room and prison which are still in a good condition. Now, it's a tourism object completed with playground, gazebos, and fishing pool.
