 townhouses  Add category

A row of seven 3.5-story (plus raised basements) Greek-revival residential buildings completed together in 1840. One of the best-preserved rows of townhouses in New York City, it was developed by Don Alonzo Cushman. They are all clad in red brick above brownstone basements. The wrought iron handrailings of the stoops are of an unusually rich design. Some of the attic windows, set in a wide fascia board ornamented with dentils and bead and reel moldings, are encircled with laurel wreaths of cast iron. Above the roof cornices, a variety of dormers grace the townhouses. A couple have been replaced with studio windows.
