Built in 1998 utilizing existing radar components from the deactivated PAVE PAWS SLBM warning site at Eldorado Air Force Station, Clear Air Force Station's radar is a Solid-State Phased-Array Radar System (SSPARS)(pronounced "ES-pars) and was declared operational on January 31st, 2001.
The radar system is capable of detecting objects at a range of 3,000 miles and is operated by the 213th Space Warning Squadron, Alaska Air National Guard.
