The castle of Tordimonte , perfectly visible from the A1 motorway , located in the territory of Orvieto , in Tor di Monte , on a steep wooded slopes of the triangular outcrop that juts out into the valley of the Paglia River , near the confluence of the Tiber.
Of origin prior to the thirteenth century, the castle was sold by the City of Orvieto accounts Montemarte , then passed to Monaldo Peter Monaldeschi noble Orvieto , which in turn , in 1248 , it promised to the Roman consul and mayor of Orvieto Jacomo Petri Octaviano .

Completely restored in 1346 , it passed to the Piccolomini Clementine and the beginning of the twentieth century, the family Brazzetti , during which time he was subjected to the architect Hugh Tarchi , famous for the restoration of ancient buildings with additions and enlargements from medieval forms typical of culture and local traditions .

On the left along a small forest of oaks in which there are traces of an ancient accommodation in boxwood hedges , on the right instead lengthens the continuous row of rustic buildings , concluded by the chapel , rebuilt in 1721 , which closes the trapezoidal courtyard .
On the opposite side of the court facing the body of the villa, subject to reconstructive surgery started around 1930 by Tarchi , characterized by a wide range of medieval decorative elements made ​​of tuff. The stone facades are characterized at times by a base shoe and crowned by a battlement wire protruding from the wall . The first floor is marked by a string course on which to rely segmental arch windows , which are distinguished from the smaller ones on the ground floor and the attic floor. Along the southwest part of the first floor is also characterized by mullioned windows , while the highest body has a second floor decorated mostly through a string course to blind arches on which they support the mullioned windows with rings chess. At the center protrudes a small balcony on volticini , the latter are repeated on the ground floor of the loggia that connects the two main bodies and which is opposed all'ariosa lodge on two floors, fter the ground floor , placed at the south east .
On the opposite side stands the great central tower of the original testimony , which towers over the other rooftops , overlooking the main courtyard ; around this develop different bodies more or less prominent, the central one is decorated with a double band binds the low- arched windows on the first floor and the second floor of the mullion .
The garden is accessed through the masonry embattled which delimits the trapezoidal courtyard , consists of a parterre grass , divided by paths , a fountain on the south and west by a centuries-old oak along the opposite side .
Currently Tordimonte Castle is privately owned , is used as a residence. It is connected to a farm that produces wine and classic red , cereals, and even a nursery.
