Built as part of the Project NATSEC expansion of radar and communications sites in the Transvaal, the Mariepskop Troposcatter station was the terminal station in a troposcatter network that linked the sites at Louwsburg and Umhlanga to the South with the adjacent Mariepskop Radar Site and nearby Hoedspruit Air Force Base. The site has since been closed and abandoned.
